David Pumphrey
Assistant Professor of Business Data Analytics
BIOGRAPHY
Dr. Pumphrey brings over 22 years of industry experience in analytics and software
development to the classroom, having built his career through progressively responsible
roles including Programmer, Systems Analyst, Enterprise Architect, Project Manager,
and various management positions before transitioning to academia in 2010.
Since 2011, he has taught in both Analytics and Information Systems, with a teaching
philosophy centered on the practical application of these disciplines and equipping
students with skills they can immediately apply in the workplace.
RESEARCH INTERESTS
Dr. Pumphrey’s research spans several interconnected areas within the analytics &
MIS fields:
• Ethical use of computing and artificial intelligence
• Analytical techniques used in industry applications
• Management of the analytics function within organizations
INTERNATIONAL EXPERIENCE
Seeking to step outside his comfort zone, Dr. Pumphrey spent several years at a university
in Saudi Arabia, an experience that sparked a lasting passion for international travel.
Since then, he has traveled extensively throughout Europe and Asia, with Ghent (Belgium),
Istanbul (Turkey), Athens (Greece), Baku (Azerbaijan), Da Nang (Vietnam), and Boracay/Bohol/Moalboal
(Philippines) ranking among his favorite destinations.
