Employee Wellness

The ATU HR office is committed to excellence through people and believes that employee wellbeing matters. If you participate in ATU's health insurance through BCBS, you are eligible for a variety of health programs in addition to your health plan benefits.

ATU offers additional employee wellbeing resources outlined below that are not dependent on participation in ATU's health insurance plan.

ATU Healthy Employee Lifestyle Program

We are excited to launch an Employee Healthy Lifestyle Program (Employee Wellness Initiative) effective January 1, 2025.

ATU has created a web-based tracking system for entry of activity that will allow ATU staff to earn leave for making healthy choices. Eligible employees, who meet criteria of the program, may earn up to two (2) days of leave in a calendar year. Leave earned through this program will not rollover to the next calendar year, if not used, and will not be compensated at the time of separation from ATU.

Ways to Earn Leave

  • Obtain annual physician wellness screenings
  • Engage in physical activity

Employee Wellness Visit

Employees have an opportunity to earn 8 hours of annual wellness leave by visiting their doctor or primary care physician each year. Examples of wellness screenings are:

  • Routine physical exams including: examination, appropriate lab tests, PSA tests (prostate-specific antigen)
  • Routine gynecological exams including: annual routing pelvic exams, annual routine PAP smears, routing mammography

Effective January 1, 2025, ATU employees are able to schedule a wellness visit through the ATU Health and Wellness Center. The wellness visit will include a general physical and labs if deemed appropriate by the health care provider. The cost is $25 and is not billed to insurance. This is not intended to replace your current primary care provider. Chronic conditions should be followed and managed by the employee's regular primary care provider.

Employee Physical Activity Participation

Employees have the opportunity to earn 8 hours of annual wellness leave by reporting their daily physical activity. Staff must report twenty-four (24) weeks of physical activity for a minimum of thirty (30) minutes a day for three (3) days a week. The weeks are not required to be contiguous weeks.

ATU staff will be able to select from a variety of physical activities within the exercise categories of endurance, strength, balance, and flexibility. See Physical Activity Fact Sheet.

How to Report

Staff log into OneTech and add a card called “Wellness Incentive”. Clicking each link will provide the employee with additional information about the benefit including help/tutorials on using the system.

Staff must record physical activity within 14 days of completing the activity. The system will not allow for entry of dates more than 14 days in the past. It is recommended that employees who wish to participate in this aspect of the program log their physical activity do so on at least a weekly basis.

Employee – Student Health Partnership

ATU is developing a partnership between university employees and students in the Kinesiology and Rehabilitation Science Program to deliver supervised testing, assessment, planning, programming, and athletic development services. The initiative is designed to expand experiential learning opportunities within select HES courses while providing accessible, evidence-based wellness and performance services to university employees.

Several courses within the Kinesiology and Rehabilitation Science curriculum lend themselves naturally to applied service-learning and practicum-based experiences. By integrating university employees as participants or “clients,” students gain hands-on experience conducting assessments, designing programs, and implementing interventions under faculty supervision. This applied model strengthens student competency, professional readiness, and confidence while reinforcing course learning objectives.

Proposed Services to Employees

Through faculty-supervised coursework, employees can voluntarily participate in services such as:

  • Health history screening and goal setting
  • Fitness and movement assessments
  • Exercise testing and interpretation
  • Individualized or small-group exercise programming
  • Strength and conditioning programming
  • Functional movement and injury-prevention strategies
  • Short-term athletic or performance development plans

Roles

  • Students: Conduct assessments, develop plans, implement programming, and document outcomes as part of course requirements.
  • Faculty: Provide oversight, ensure safety and quality, supervise assessments and programming, and evaluate student performance.
  • Employees: Participate as voluntary clients, providing real-world engagement while supporting student learning.

Participation

Employees interested in participating should contact James Di Naso, Instructor in Kinesiology and Rehabilitation Science, at 815-600-3129.
